BONDERITE® L-GP M 208 ACHESON is a lubricant additive comprised of a high-solids suspension of molybdenum disulfide dispersed in petroleum oil.

Product Overview

BONDERITE® L-GP M 208 ACHESON (previously known as Molydag 208) is a multipurpose, high-solids, oil-based molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) additive intended to be used in the formulation of high-performance industrial oils and greases. It is specially formulated to provide an economical and easy approach to fortifying greases and heavy oils with MoS2. Because of its fine particle size and distribution, the additive demonstrates consistent, effective coating coverage at lower solids content than MoS2 powder, making it ideally suited for industrial applications that need solid film lubrication but cannot tolerate coarse, solid additives. The fine and stable dispersion of MoS2 helps reduce wear and friction, particularly in extreme-pressure environments, to extend machinery life and reduce maintenance costs. BONDERITE® L-GP M 208 ACHESON can be blended easily into a majority of petroleum oils and lubricating greases.

Problems Solved

Lubricant formulators can struggle with the excessive costs associated with high-solids molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) content in their lubrication products. Such costs are often driven by the need for larger quantities of raw materials to achieve the desired lubrication performance. The use of coarse MoS2 particles can also be problematic, given that such particles do not offer the same uniformity in coverage as finer materials, leading to suboptimal solid film lubrication. Consequently, there is an increased risk of wear and tear on machinery due to uneven lubrication, which can escalate maintenance costs and decrease operational efficiency. Furthermore, blending MoS2 into petroleum oil or grease in a stable, homogenous mixture can present challenges.
