Product Overview

BONDERITE® M-PT ALX, formerly called PARCOLENE ALX, is a powdered chemical that neutralizes acidic phosphate during the conversion coating process. It is intended to be applied by immersing coated steel treated with BONDERITE® M-ZN 770X phosphate coating in the neutralizing bath. This step takes place after the cold-water rinse and before applying the forming lubricant to neutralize oxide metal parts and remove any residual alkalinity that can cause corrosion. As well as a neutralizing agent, BONDERITE® M-PT ALX acts as a lubricity aid by improving the complete absorption and reaction of the forming lubricant to the metal surface. It also extends the lubricant bath life by preventing phosphate contamination. The recommended starting bath concentration is 0.5 pounds of product to 100 gallons of water.

Problems Solved

Phosphate coatings are commonly applied to metal surfaces before forming or painting to improve adhesion, but acidic phosphate residue often remains on the part once the conversion coating process is complete. The acid residue can result in corrosion or insufficient lubricant absorption, causing part deformities, damage, or poor surface finish. Additionally, residual acid can contaminate the lubricant bath, shortening its longevity or increasing maintenance cycles.
